Welcome to the Surry Central Band Website!
Guard Show results from at Northwest Guilford HS:
Surry Central Winter Guard placed 2nd in their class. In addition judges determined their high score would promote Surry Central into the next class. Also performing in their first show of the season was the Central Cadets from CMS. Performing their "Lean on Me" show, the Cadets placed 1st. Way to go Central Guards!
Both Winter Guards will be traveling to Northwestern HS in Rock Hill, SC for their second show. Good luck guards!

Hello Central Band Family and Friends -
This season has been very active for myself and the weather. I wanted to take a moment catch everyone up to date for activities this semester. We have finished our first season with Pep Band playing at select home basketball games. Overall the crowd seemed to enjoy it and wih some minor adjustments we should be able to offer it again next season. District Honors Band Clinic is being held this weekend in Boone. Anna H. and Chris N. auditioned and were just 2 of 5 from Surry County to make the band this year. Congratulations! The Surry County Band Directors met last week and have selected a date in late March for our second annual Concert Band Festival. I will be posting that information when the dates are confirmed. The performances will be during the school day at the Andy Griffith Playhouse and will open to the public.
Winter Guard season is in full swing at both SCHS and CMS. Winter weather has slowed both groups down a bit, but they are eager to perform at the first show next weekend (Feb 26th ) at Northwest Guilford HS. If you have never seen a winter guard show live you should make plans to attend. Parents need to contact me to chaperone. We will need plenty of help between the two schools. I am only allowed so many chaperones, so contact me right away to reserve your spot for this show.
I am currently in the process of beig certified for my National Boards. While the process has been very rewarding and educational for me, it has been very time consuming. We will be rescheduling some booster meetings in the upcoming weeks to get back on track.
In the Spring we will have our final concert (May) as we start our preparations for next years marching band.
All current 8th grade parents please do not overlook band for your student in high school. There are many benefits and rewards band has to offer year round. Children can easily be swayed to get off track and need your guidance to keep them on track. Please help them with this. I have been teaching for over 20 years now and have heard countless times for former students they wish they has stayed in band while in high school. Music is a lifelong process and helps students in so many ways. Please take the time and consider all options when planning for next year.
I look forward to seeing and hearing from you soon. The high school has it's new "Spring Fling" scheduled soon and CMS will be holding it's "Student Led Conferences". These are both very informative to your childs well-being. Contact each school for exact time and dates and plan to attend.
Thank you for supporting our Central Band program and more inportantly, our children.
Sincerely,
Mike Hyde
